Whilst the weather is dark and dismal there’s nothing like hearty, warming winter pies to make you feel all cosy and ‘Hygge’, are there? Here is a collection of 10 just such warming winter pies that are easy to make from the kitchens of some of my favourite bloggers.
I say warming winter pies but of course you could enjoy these at any time, and those using seasonal fruit are better cooked and devoured as soon as possible.
Pies are next on my agenda because, having finally got to grips with the slow cooker, Ieuan remarked at tea that we seem to be having “an awful lot of casseroles”.
There’s a mix of sweet and savoury here which should suit all tastes, whether you’re a custard or a gravy fiend.
Natalie’s Fit for a Queen Fruit Tart Recipe
For the Queen’s 90th birthday, Natalie teamed up with Kitchenways to create the gorgeous fruit-filled pie with cooking apples, fresh raspberries and blueberries and kiwi fruit.
Update: Natalie’s recipe is no longer available but you can find a lovely selection of fruit tart recipes here
Leyla’s Blackberry Pie
Leyla at Motherhooddiaries.com created her pie after some serious blackberry foraging with her three boys. We weren’t so lucky here with our blackberry crop but I suspect you have to be pretty quick off the mark if you want to make a tasty pie like this one.

Jane’s Honey Spiced Pumpkin Pie
This is an easy to make sweet pie that you can make using a ready-made sweet pastry case to save some time. It’s filled with a delicious mix of pumpkin puree, honey and spices and is best eaten slathered in cream.

Jane’s Homity Pie
Jane also shared her first ever blog post which was, coincidentally a recipe for a vegetarian Skinny Homity Pie.
A Homity pie is a traditional British open vegetable pie although little is known about its origins.
Jane’s skinny version contains onion, potato, eggs and cheese and she uses shop bought filo pastry to save time in the kitchen. Grated cheddar cheese and mustard add an extra tang.

Claire’s Rabbit & Black Pudding Pie
Bacon, mushrooms, black pudding and rabbit makes this pie full of flavour, says Claire. Rabbit may be an acquired taste for some but it is readily available and this pie can be whipped up in no time. Claire used her slow cooker to cook the rabbit meaning the rest of the pie could be put together in 20 minutes before baking.

Sal’s “Mum’s Apple Pie”
Who doesn’t love apple pie? It’s a family staple, isn’t it? This one uses 6 large Bramley Apples, but you could use Golden Delicious if you like your pie a little sweeter. I can smell the aroma of cinnamon and almond essence from here!

Jen’s Gardeners Pie
Jen’s Gardeners Pie is a brilliant way of using up a glut of vegetables or, in my case, the usually large pile lurking in the ‘vegetable drawer’. This one used potatoes, onion, celery, carrots, parsnips, spinach and peas. I’m not quite sure Ieuan is ready for this one but I know the rest of us are!

Jo’s Steak & Mushroom Pie
Jo says that this is a fairly regular dish for her family dinner table and if you want a vegetarian option you can substitute the steak for Quorn. Once assembled the pie takes just 30 minutes in the oven.

Georgina’s Raspberry and Apple Pie
An easy to assemble sweet treat which combines the sweetness of raspberries with the tang of Bramley apples and Georgina made her own pastry for this one. She says cold hands are the secret. You could also buy a ready-made pastry case – I won’t tell.

So there you have it – a mix of 10 sweet and savoury pies that you don’t need to be masterchef to cook up. Quick to make, ideal for any day of the week and just the thing to take your mind of the weather.
Great selection of pies, I love fruit pies especially apple and raspberry.
I absolutely love pies – it’s the pastry that does it for me. I have never understood why some people only put a lid on and then call it a pie, lol.
How delicious they look and what a lovely idea to gather such a lovely selection from other bloggers. I haven’t made a pie for quite some time so have my eye on the homity pie.
Yummy! The steak and mushroom pie sounds delicious!
Some great ideas I like the apple and raspberry pie and also the classic apple pie.
They all look so yummy
Ohh! I feel hungry just looking at these pies.

This is a nice collection of pie recipes. I am going to try some of them for sure. Thanks for sharing. xx
Thanks so much for featuring our baby led weaning pies! I hope they’ll encourage Ieuan to eat a bit more veg!
