How To Find Your Ideal Workout

It may be your New Year resolution to work out and get healthier, but before you can get started on any of the hundreds and thousands of workout programmes available out there, you need to know what will work for you. So many people start a regime in January to get healthy, but they don’t see it through to the end because they are confused about how to progress and they have no support. The exercise programme that you choose has to be a good fit, or you’re not going to stick to it.

Choosing your workout has to take time. You need to choose workouts with movements that are right for you, and you can’t do that if you’re unsure where to start or even where to look. If you’re seeking 6pack abs, thighs of steel and shoulders that burst your t-shirts, then weights could be a good way to go. If you want to get lean, perhaps choosing running is best. You need to look at the list below and learn how to find your ideal workout.

How to decide on your perfect workout plan

What are your goals?

Before you can learn the workout that works for you, you need fitness goals in place. Are you aiming to get shredded or run a marathon? Understanding what you want from your training is going to help you to achieve more than you think. You don’t necessarily have to run for an hour a day to do well with your physique: you just need to know what to do for a happy, healthy and active life. Set yourself some goals and move forward with those goals.

What are you training?

Some people choose to train their muscles in their core or their legs, but they forget that they are a whole, complete person. There are other things to consider, including whether the workout you are doing is focusing on a few muscles or the whole package of heart, joints and circulation. You want to ensure your overall health, not just a good bottom! Find a workout that suits your long-term goals, and you’ll achieve them.

Are you looking for fitness or weight loss?

Now, these are not a pair! Your exercise programme isn’t going to be the only element in losing weight, and exercise can mean that your weight remains the same – you just take up less space. So, separate your workouts from your weight loss. You need to stick to the science and burning off calories to “earn” a pound of weight loss is just cultivating bad dieting relationships.

Will it fit in with your life?

No matter which exercise schedule you choose, it’s got to fit in with your life. You can do whatever you want to do, as long as you find a balance with it. Your workouts need to fit in well with your life, or you won’t have a chance.

Exercise is designed to make you feel good, so choose something that suits your life and your goals together. You may find it’s trial and error to get it right – and that’s okay!
