How To Create A Wow-Factor Lounge

Modern lounges tend to favour white walls, neutral carpets and practical furniture. And many of us have a lounge that boasts these features for a good balance of comfort and style. But what if you want to a space that’s more impressive? A lounge that creates a talking point with guests and gives you a boost every time you walk into it. Well, there are a few key features that can give your lounge that wow-factor. So, let’s take a look at what they are.

Install a stylish floor

One of the biggest and most obvious surfaces in any room is the floor. So, to create a real wow-factor in your lounge it’s important to get your flooring right. A grey carpet simply won’t cut it. You want something that makes a big style statement.

Of course, it still needs to be practical and hard-wearing for family life too. So, choosing a high-quality floor is crucial. And solid wood, parquet floors do hit the mark. When installing parquet flooring, going for a hard rather than soft wood gives you better durability and looks. Herringbone and chevron patterns are very much in vogue at the moment, but you could up the wow-factor by going for a French palace-inspired Versailles design for added grandness. Or a geometric Bordeaux pattern to show off the wood grain.

Go bold with dark colours

Although neutral colours and muted tones are fashionable, they’re not particularly eye-catching and don’t create much of a sensation when you walk into the room. And that’s why more and more people are making the brave decision to go bold.

Of course, you could go bold with bright colours such as orange and yellow. However, that could feel a bit overwhelming when faced with it first thing in the morning. So, dark tones do tend to work better in bold lounges. And there are plenty of colour choices to create an impact in the room. Dark blues and greens are well-used for this purpose. But you could try a deep aubergine or almost-black colour for your walls. And why not paint ceilings in bright white for contrast or the same colour for added drama?

Use sumptuous fabrics

Heavy textiles make a lounge feel much more luxurious and sophisticated. Velvet, silk and thick, woven fabrics all add decadence to rooms. So, bringing them into your lounge is a great way to increase the wow-factor. These fabrics and textiles, in the right tones, work really well with bold walls too. Whether you drench the room with velvet sofas, curtains, footstools and cushions, or simply add a few luxury fabric highlights here and there, is up to you. A flocked lightshade or framed fabric samples can create just as good an effect.

Add classy gold touches

Nothing stands out more against dark, bold colours than the flash of gold. Done right, it’s sophisticated and expensive looking. So, you don’t want to overdo it, but simply use it in classy but noticeable touches around the room.

So, where might you add gold in a lounge? Well, you’ve got plenty of options. Use it on hardware such as furniture handles and light switches or on your accessories such as picture frames and candlesticks. Or even in the soft furnishings with fringing and embroidered detailing. And a combination of these may give you the perfect balance.
